I was there 1952-8. First time I've seen a picture of the school so thanks Bobhamo. We used to have to cross the road for some lessons and go into an old Victorian house. It was known as 69 - its number. I'm sure it's long gone but are there any pics of it lying around?

Roberts, Allison are the Bootle names I'm interested in.
Thorp(e), Ballard, Parry, Lucas, Dodd, Jacobson, are Liverpool ancestors.

I was there from 49 to 55. CRossed the road for Spanish and I think it was Math by a guy named Lawler, I think. Also had to attend there on a Saturday morning detention hosted by "Dickie" Vernon and spent the morning doing regulars, a bit of a pain in the A**. Worst part about Saturday detention was having to tell my mother to get me up early, she was not best pleased about it

Hi all! I actually stumbled on this site while searching for Netherton Moss links. While I believe I can put some names to faces on picture 'E', I've got a feeling the photo was earlier than 1961.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7161/6588 ... 2b75_b.jpg
Back row (L to R) Jacobsen; ?; ?; Norman Calvert; ?; Pearson; Nobby Clarke; ?; ?; ?; ?; ?; ?.
Second row Me (I think?); Ian Harris; Derrick Ainsworth; ?; David Horrocks;
Harvey Dodgson; Chris Pender; Stewart McKenzie; Billy Lawrence; ?; ?; ?.
Front row Brian Davidson; Raymond Massey(?); ?; ?; ?; Pritchard; ?; ?; David Wilson; Eddie Blower (?); ?; Walter Fung; John Kirkland.
Also, I think somewhere in there are John Howes and Ian Agnew. Chris Pender lives in Australia and Brian (Nerk) Davidson lived in Canada until his death in 2003. It's quite possible I've got some of the above wrong, so I'll be more than happy to stand corrected.

This Forum never ceases to amaze me - the surprises that I get over the years are unbelievable!! Photos of my family on Victory V Day, a picture of my Grandmother, my Mum, Aunts & Uncles when they were children and with Lily's expertise a lot of genealogy on both sides of the family!
Bob - I was looking at the photos from the Bootle Grammer School Album you secured and lo and behold there was a photo of my eldest brother when he first started on his teaching career. He really doesn't look that much older than his pupils I can't wait to forward same to my niece and nephew - if that is alright with you? Thank you so much for posting same.
I received this reply back from my nephew:
Hi Auntie Trish:
Fine thanks. Yes, that’s Dad. His first teaching post after he qualified was back at Bootle Grammar; then on to Quarry Bank, where he missed teaching John Lennon by a year or so (though had a tale of him trying to gas the staff in the common room by connecting a pipe from a car exhaust to a hole in the wall).
Famous (directly or indirectly) people Dad taught:
Peter, now Lord Goldsmith (and his brother) – who became Attorney General and advised Blair that the Iraq War was legal -
Both Bob Paisley’s sons (Liverpool manager)
Assorted footballers: Joe Royle (Everton and England), Steve Coppell (Man Utd. and England) and I think Cyrille Regis at Churchfields (West Brom and England).
Hope this is of help......Peter x

Alex Palmer......Same row end left.
Les Ellis.........Back row....second left

Hi There Brenda - Always look forward to hearing from you!!! A couple other boys that were friends of Norman were Frank Goodier and Stanley Dempsey (I used to have a crush on him!!) I believe Frank Goodier is still living in the same house in Melville.
We were so lucky that road was filled with girls and boys in our various age groups so we always had plenty of friends to play with and the older ones always looked out for us younger ones and would on occasion escort us during the summer holidays on the train to Ainsdale or Southport which made our parents more comfortable.
Brenda Did you know Sheila and Eileen Rooney who lived a little higher up from you on Harris Drive? - Eileen the younger one was in our circle of friends also Pauline Baden, Maureen Cooper, Marlene McLoughlan, Pat & Jean Usher. The older ones were Maureen Patterson, Joyce Whitby and Sheila Rooney! Often wonder where they all are now. I had heard that Sheila worked for an American Airline in the States.
Take care..........Patricia x

Hi Patricia - Yes, I remember Stanley Dempsey. I also remember George Mercer who lived at #30 Melville. George was married to one of my best friends, Doreen Storrey.
Sadly George passed away several years ago. However, I have always kept in touch with Doreen. She still lives at #30. We were school friends at Roberts School.
My memory has been jogged!! I also remember some of the girls from the old neighborhood. You mentioned Joyce Whitby, the Usher sisters, and Pauline Baden.
Coincidence - I was talking to my cousin June in N.J. yesterday and mentioned Pauline Baden. She did not remember Pauline but remembered her mother very well and how kind she was when they worked together in Waterloo back in the 50s. Do you remember June McKinklay from Roberts School She lived in Howarth Drive. Her husband Bruce was stationed at Burtonwood when they met. They were married at St Phillips Church. They lived in Indiana. We have kept in touch all these years.
She has an older sister Jill who lives in Pennsylvania, also one of my dear old friends. Well, so much for old friends!!!I I always enjoy reading your posts about
our old neighborhood. Keep in touch.
Stay well and keep wearing your mask.
Love, Brenda

Hi Patricia ,
I was a pupil there when that photograph was taken and recognise all the teachers and ''most'' of my class.
But I [ and some friends of mine ] are not on it...........probably cropped off.
I don't suppose your nephew has any more of that particular photo ?
Yours [ cheekily ]
Tom
