Thanks Bob.I recognise some of the teachers and the school secretary who came after Miss Morgan retired and also some of the upper 6th form but they were in the 4 alpha when I left at the end of 1958.
Bet Bootle Lad Ray can name most of the teachers.

Great photos - too early for me to remember many of the boys (I started there in 1962) but most of the staff are familiar. Some I recognise but couldn't put a name to but the far left on the back row is Mr Warburton (I think) and next to him is the music teacher Mr Clark (a very odd character). Next to him, I think, is the Latin master. Third from left, middle row, is the very pleasant French teacher Mr Wilkins (?) whose chants of 'Mon, ma, mes; ton ta, tes; leur, leur, leur avec S' I shall remember for the rest of my life. Is the chap third from the right, middle row, J. A. Barr (otherwise known as 'Jabber'? V. Hayes is one side of the headmaster and Harry Flood is the other side. We were all in love with the secretary.
Hi Ian,isn't the Latin teacher 'gentle Ben"Owens sitting between Hayes and the perverted 'piggy "Porter? You should have seen the school secretary when she first came to the grammar mid 50's.I dont think she was much older than some of the upper 6th formers caused a near riot come dinner time with some of the older boys trying to serve her food to the teachers table .When the former secretary Miss Morgan came round for the dinner money my first day at the grammar and I gave my name Matthew Wethered and the comment from her was"not another Wethered!!She used to do some of the work up at the girls grammar on Breeze Hill and my aunt Mary went there along with my uncle and dad at the boys school.

Hi Bob, In the last two (No1) I recognise Gwyther, Clarke & Nacinovich former team mates from the double winning Netherton Moss team.
Murch & Murt might also be there - Bee Jones might recognise them.
Ken
On close look Alan Murch & Peter Murt are there. Norman Gwyther, Geoff Clarke & Kenny Nacinovich. Must have been a good side with them in it.

He wasn't my Latin teacher. He looks of an age where he might have retired before the school went to Netherton.matt wethered wrote:Hi Ian,isn't the Latin teacher 'gentle Ben"Owens sitting between Hayes and the perverted 'piggy "Porter?

Kenny Nacinovich is in Oz, his SIL is occasionally on here.
Bee might know the whereabouts of some of the others, she knows Peter.
Ken
Front row left could be a lad called Peter Brown from Carr Meadow

But you and I were two of the better players Ray.
Hi Ray,but you recognised Clarkies car parked out front
Never did follow anything about the grammar after I left.
Did Jean D Berbiers ever make it as headmaster to the new school in
Netherton? I know he worked very hard to get that school built.

Not sure Matt
Didn't like the T##T any way, I think Moreland who took over from Roper in the art department was the headmaster when they moved to Netherton, thanks once again for the photos Bob H, I wish there were names on them, as I would be able to
remember them, I have emailed the topic to my Grammar mates around the world who were there at the same as me who are not on the forum, I am sure I will get a lot of replies and info, EG, names

Could have been your modesty, Eddy, that prevented you from being picked I was the same - in our double winning year I was having stitches put in my leg when the team photo was taken Ken

Next to last photo of footy teams;
Back row
Far left; Peter Murt; will be well known to many site members as Mr Murt who taught at Gray St/Thomas Gray Primary for most of his career. Now living in Crosby.
Far right; Alan Murch very successful career in estate agency now lives in Lower Heswall
Centre is the late Colin Gilvin who worked as a prison governor prior to his death about 10 years ago.
And Ay you Kenny Edwards; I'll give you "She knows Peter "

Bob,
did you buy this album as a mixed lot on ebay a few weeks ago? We had it on watch but then forgot to bid. Can't remember if I've mentioned on site that as Harry (my other half) is a dealer in old postcards we keep a watch on lots of stuff so often miss things we actually want to buy
cheers, Bee

Matt is right about (Ben) Owen. He did teach Latin. He was old - I think he once told my class that he'd taken his matriculation before the war - and he meant the First World War!

Roberts, Allison are the Bootle names I'm interested in.
Thorp(e), Ballard, Parry, Lucas, Dodd, Jacobson, are Liverpool ancestors.
