Marie, Love the Bird of Paradise, they grow well here as does the Geranium. Those Ginger plants - the Orange one is Curcuma Roscoeana - the name tag said 'comes to you from the mystic forests of tropical Burma'! The pink one, Curcuma alismatifolla (Kimono Pink) 'from the open woodlands of Northern Thailand comes the Siam Tulip'. So there you are, I didn't get them from travelling to Burma or Siam just from Big W (Woolworths) nursery :) Waiting for a red and a white to bloom... Robyn

Marie, the info on the orange ginger says it makes a beautiful, focal cut flower that can last up to a month, the pink says the flowers can remain on the plant for up to 3 months.

Hamble, I'm trying to brighten you up not depress you but just to add salt to the wound here's a photo of my local beach taken New Year's Day when I went for a dip.

Marie, was visiting a friend earlier in the week and in her garden another Ginger (Curcuma) the flowers were about 12 inches high and at least 2 1/2 inches diameter across. They almost look plastic/imitation...Robyn

Robyn, they are lovely, they do look artificial. When I go to the garden center I will ask about them, I have not seem them here.

This cactus blooms from November till about the end of this month.
The money plant is in full bloom at the moment.

After viewing all of these beautiful pictures I am not sure if I am more depressed then before  .

These flowers are gorgeous, not sure how they would do in our winters here, my garden is under mud at the moment we have had thaw and everything is brown, grey and looks dirty.

I cannot wait for spring to get my hands into the muck and maybe try some of these flowers will do some research now to see if I can buy them here.

Love the photos and the one of the beach ohhhhhhhhhhhhh will save someof these to my desk top and add them to my screen saver that may help cheer me up
smile it makes people wonder what you have been up to!

Lookin' good Eddie, I've heard that you have to give Bonsai a lot of TLC, how on earth do you get the time???
I have to say I'm not really a 'proper' gardener like some people but I potter and weed and prune just to keep it all tidy, find it relaxing to spend time outside though during the summer it's either early when the mornings are cool or in the evenings. Please post future photos of your Bonsai when Spring arrives.
Little corner of my back garden (Pouring down rain here at the moment, very tropical that's why all is so green)

When our Spring comes we should do a thread about gardening and get some tips, pictures and help with problems and or suggestions there appears to be some very good gardeners.
