Thank goodness for that well done Bernie. I think that one must have been a bit too obscure.
Thanks to everyone for having a go anyway

I took it too literally Bill.
Kept reversing red so looking for something with der (like Derek & Dominoes)
Another enjoyable set Bill although I must say I've never heard of Tony Brent (but liked the wordplay none the less)

Hi Shelagh, I guess I was showing my age with Tony Brent, I keep forgetting everyone is not as old as me
Tony had a few hits in the 50s and was always on the TV in variety shows (if you can remember what they were)

"And I'll be homeward bound" ...know the song well, Bee, always singing it in the fifties
not heard of Tony Brent though, can remember "Cindy" by Eddie Fisher, (lovely voice)
But not Tony Brent version, learn something new everyday!
Never heard of "Ocean colour Scene" either, but will get there, (know some rappers though ) definitely moving in the right direction
Bill, by all means, another set for the team, I'll have to step down for a few weeks, but will try to look in whenver possible
Not old Bill, how can you be, all that pop knowledge, you little trendy, you

Shelagh, I'm with you, I associate that song with Eddie Fisher.
Not so much pop knowledge, more a case of picking names from the pop charts and then coming up with a clue to fit the name. I'm fine with 50/60/70s after that I'm lost.

Here goes with the last lot this year.
Music Personalities
--------------------------
1. Do the North separate the Highland.
2. Could be a big female stood for election.
3. The soldier could be told to drive the boat.
4. Was distant on the issue.
5. Sounds like a poor trade for the abattoir worker
6. Hard press to get over having not scored.
7. Before the beefeaters could have had a restaurant in Wales.
8. With a liqueur the French got in the car with an alien front and back.
9. Got the money returned.
10. The sports body had some insects within the race.
I think these are a bit easier than the last lot.

Well done Shelagh, you got the correct answer but not with all of the correct reasons.
With the liqueur (Anis) 'the' French (la) got in (a.la.nis) the car (Morris) an alien(ET) front and back (ET & TE)
= A la nis Morris.et.te. ....Alanis Morrisette
Congratulations again
Bill

Hi Shelagh, not Nelly Furtado, you are overthinking again.
I have avoided giving extra clues on the last couple, because this is the last lot for this year and so you have plenty of time to think about them
Don't forget to try putting comma's or full stops in different parts of the clues in order to make them read differently
Bill

Just to concentrate the minds, here's the 3 that are outstanding...
Music Personalities
--------------------------
2. Could be a big female stood for election.
5. Sounds like a poor trade for the abattoir worker
10. The sports body had some insects within the race.
