Does anyone remember the above company, which was situated where the old Ribble offices were on Hawthorne Road? If so, what did they make? I seem to recall the building being demolished around the late 60's.

Just going through old threads.

I was familiar with the name because of the history in tallow.

I'll check my old lube oil books to see if there's anything else.

Don't know if the Campbell Street site is the one just off Derby Road opposite the old St Mary's church grounds.

Going to need a huge slice of luck to find anything on the net.

In 1945 there were over 300 lubricating oil blenders in the UK. I'm pretty sure James Light wasn't a refiner.

There was a Planning Committee meeting August 30 2017 regarding the redevelopment of 503-509 Hawthorne Road.

Identified as the former Arriva bus depot. Plans for retail store, 100 space car park and 119 family dwellings.

Developer estimated remediation costs £350,000. DVS (District Valuer) estimate £3,500,000.

If it goes ahead, there may be more site history detail in the planning proposals.

Nicolas posted this photo last year. The year was given as 1937. On all the Bootle aerial photos, nobody has ever pointed out James Light & Sons.

Comments are always confined to the old favourites, but the site must be in there.

I'll keep looking.
