Hello
I'm looking for some background to a football club which I think was called Bootle FC or maybe JFC. I have been told my grandfather founded the club but looking online seems improbable as this seems to have been founded circa 1860??? thereabouts. So I'm thinking he probably founded a team for my father's age which again not sure of as both have passed away. My grandfather was called Harold Smith and my father also Harold Thomas Smith also known as "Harry" or "H" born in 1953 so the team maybe late 50's and early 60's. I know my father also played for other clubs but again not sure which one's I do know he was picked for Tranmere Reserves around the 70's and I do know he played for Scots Bakery where he worked at the time . I know that he was regularly in the local newspapers as I have seen the clipping my grandmother kept but I only have one of him. I'm looking for any information really photos, stories if you played with him etc anything really to pass on to my children (sad I know) I know my father was also a keen cricketer and I think played for county . Also my father's mother was Mary Smith nee Lawless if anyone has any knowledge regarding her, particularly parentage this would be most appreciated as ancestry.com blows my mind!! Sorry for the long post and apologies if this does not belong here. Thanks Claire

Hi and welcome to our Forum, sorry I cant help with the sports side but maybe with some family history to kick it off::::

Mary Lawless and Harold T Smith Married in 1947, Harold T Smith was born 1927 I believe the son of Harold Smith and Sarah McGrane who married in 1927. Sarah was born Liverpool 1904, hard to trace Harold with that very common surname but will be back later with more.

Great finds Lily,

It's possible Mary Lawless was born in 1924

Jan-Feb-Mar 1924
Registration district:
Liverpool
Inferred County:

I found a marriage in 1908 which could possibly be her parents (Lancashire BMD) ref numbers
