My family used to live in those tenements.

An amazing space, sadly all gone now.

Bob Fantastic pictures didn't know there was a park there.
My dad saved a young lad from drowning in the canal on the left hand side just by the park.

My dad mentioned the stairs.
Has a young lad l also went to the baths all down to my dad.
At the time it was hard
but as you get older loved it great days in Bootle Bath
Would love to see some of the kids today swimming in bootle baths

:P  I remember when there were air raid shelters underground in the park, they were also in the park on Hawthorn Road .Kids had free entry to the shelters some shelters still had bunk beds in them but the ones in the park in Derby Road were always flooded.
Take Care

Thanks Bob.

All gone before I came along so no wonder I had no memory of it.

Cheers

Hello

I take it that the block of houses opposite the park on Millers Bridge is Balliol Terrace, the reason I ask is I have just traced my Great Great Grandmother back to No 5 Balliol Terrace in 1899.

Regards

John, on the 1911 census for Millers Bridge the enumerators' page for number 110 and 110a (used as an example) states 110 Millers Bridge, while the actual census page filled in by the family says the address was 110 and 110a Balliol Terrace. I'm assuming the tenement buildings are the ones being referred to. Can't find Balliol Terrace on a map from that date. Can anyone confirm this please?

Balliol terrace built 1850 demolished 1950s deemed to be the worst living conditions in bootle and demolished
it is the block on the photo ,the early 1850 map shows the other terraces in the area
but was made in 1849 so it does not show balliol terrace
this is the 1900 street dir
