Hi Lily
The House of Name Crests have it as another spelling for Yankovich.
Poles of Ukranian descent.

Dont think it was Yankovitch somehow, though the name whatever the spelling I believe would have its roots in Russia.

hi liz,i grew up in bootle 60 years ago and marsh villa was a garage/petrol station on orrell rd bootle.they done repairs and sold petrol from there, the owners lived over the garage..it was next to the co-op which was on cinder lane and on the other side was gartside fish and chip shop.dawsons fruit shop, dawsons newsagents.a butchers, irwins smiths,a cobblers and a postoffice,(mcgoughs)the nearest cemetry was bootle cemetry ( which is still there)was about 200 yards away on menai rd.and the walnut tree pub was in between.they pulled it down about 40 years ago but replaced it with a self service garage which is still there today on orrell rd.st robert bellarmines church andschool is about 100 yards away.sorry but i cant remember the name of the owner or his wife and 2 children,i remember it because the name marsh villa was on a big sign over it.hope it helps.cheers

Hi Liz,

This is the listing in the 1938 Directory, so it looks like Marsh Villa was many things in the past.

The Walnut Tree PH is listed then and is still there.

thanks for all your help and hard work, this has really been a fascinating insight into my family history. If i can locate the whereabouts of the graves of these ancestors I hope to maybe visit the area sometime in the new year.
Again, thank you all for being so kind and helpful.

Hello,
It's been a long time since I first started my research on my family living at Marsh Villa, I have come along way in solving the mystery of the Jucanwich family (it got very complicated!) and this week I am visiting the area for the first time, could any of you tell me where the nearest Cof E cemetary is to the area of Orrell, I am hoping to find my great great grandparents somewhere and there are a LOT of large cemetaries in the area, I don't think we have the time to go to ALL of them!
any ideas are always greatly appreciated,
Thanks
Liz

Liz,

You can rule out Ford or Yew Tree cems, I have had a look for Sutton burials in Ford 1893 nothing coming up there for John W Sutton.

Bootle cem wasn't open until 1913. So my guess could be Anfield, or even St Mary's church cemetery in Bootle, the church isn't there now (bombed in ww2) but there are still some headstones laying flat on the ground and up around the perimeter of the gardens there.

Bootle cem records are at Thornton Garden of rest, but can't be looked up by the public.

Anfield cem registers and St Mary's Bootle are on microfilm at Liverpool RO.

We have the marriage of Louisa 22 (father John) to Matthew 30 (father Antonius) living in Derby St.
in 1851 St Mary's Edge Hill.
Just to add, one of the witnesses was Margaret Sutton.

Baptism Ann Sutton mother Louisa father Thomas carter address as Wavertree, 23 Aug 1869, St Peters.
born 1 July 1869

(and I thought Louisa had died, that's why Chas was adopted  )

1871 Dryden St Scottie
Thomas Sutton 45 bn Wolverhampton labr
Louisa 36 bn Yarmouth
Ann 19mnths bn Lpool

1881 Louisa & Ann and John aged 7yrs, boarding in Kirkdale.
It doesn't give Louisa's marital status.
(John bapt John Wm s/o Thos & Louisa of Scotland Rd
St Peters 12.4.1874)

What happened to John Matthew J.....

hi guys, thanks for finding John William's cemetary, thats going to save me a lot of time! If you see a 30 something woman lurking around your local grave yard, don't panic, it's just me!

I shall attempt to explain the sutton / Jucanwich story....
John William Sutton married Margaret Easter 1856 at St Johns Old Haymarket. Margaret's sister Louisa marries and has two sons with Matthew Jucanwich (a mariner), Matthew dies of bronchitis Sept 1860, their youngest son John is born in December 1860, their eldest son Charles is taken in by John and Margaret, I have been unable to find what happened to the youngest son. The widdowed Louisa marries John Sutton's brother Thomas in 1865 and they have two children (Thomas had been married before, marriage cert claims he is a widow but I think his first wife is still alive and well living with their two children in 1871!)
Margaret died in Benleidi street June 1871
John William marries Mary Thomas in 1874 (their son Alfred is born out of wedlock in 1873!)
and so they all live happily ever after....
When John William Sutton died, he left a large amount to his adopted son Charles including his buisness in William Moult Street.
I have been in contact with the decendants of Charles Juncawich (they are still Suttons - imagine their surprise to discover their surname is actually Jucanwich)
and the decendants of Thomas's children from his first marriage all left for Australia - their decendants are still there.
I have totally failed to find the origins of the surname Jucanwich though!

No one told me when I started the Geneology thing two years ago that it would take over my entire life! (and my partner never expected to spend our holidays searching around graveyards in north England - I think he was hoping to go to Paris)
Many thanks guys :D

Hi Lily..are you sure about singing lessons
Hi Liz, many thanks for updates, I'd been wombating away while you were replying.
I can only imagine the Sutton family reaction to Charles "real" name.
What a shock for them.
I'm not sure if Thomas 1st wife alive when he married.
I've found him with Eliza only 22 yrs of age, no kiddies.
He was so much older, do you think he had a wife before Eliza?
Making Louisa number 3??
Like you, I don't know about John Matthew J.
Cheers me dear

Just wanted to say thank you to you all, spent a few days in Liverpool and got to visit the grave in Sefton, alas I could not find the grave in st Oswald cemetary though I was told that a few of the graves had been removed. I had a very nice surprise when loitering outside the former home of John Sutton on Anfield road from 1881, after convincing the homeowner I was not crazy (who was asking why on earth I was photographing his house) he very kindly invited me in and gave me a tour of the house!
I would not have managed this without your help.
Thanks all!
