Loretta, have you thought of a bike Rack, just attach to your tow bar, your bikes fit onto it.I have used one for years travelling around Australia.

We do have a rack Charlie, we may just put the smaller bike in the boot and the slightly larger one on the rack to save having to fold and unfold it! Sounds as if you had a great time cycling around Aussie, I am sure you have many tales about your travels, why not put them on Chat About Anything? most of us love stories like that :D
