Wow Jan, the first pic would have been close the flat John and I rented when we first got married,
near the bottom of Keble, and the corner to Queens Rd. Big changes all over.
Thanks for pics.

Thanks,
Glad you like the pics.
I will get more as time progresses.
I will need to sort my camera out. I had my dog with me when I took them, he was a pain in the ..... and I took some great pictures of the pavements, my hand and my shoes! He tugged on the lead just at the wrong time.

I hope that I won't insult too many people but from what I see they would have been better off remodeling the old houses as they had so much more character and most of them had alreday lasted over 100 years. What they are buding now will be a pile of rubble in 50 yeras and are so small that the quality of life (living space) seems no better off than what they knocked down!
It takes all types to make the world go on its merry way!
By the way I feel sure God made it just like the way he likes it!

I agree with you too Joe,
The question was always being asked, "Why don't they just refurbish all the houses"? But the council were adamant that it would have cost too much and to redevelop would be cheaper, but what I don't understand is, there have been a lot of houses refurbished that are of the same age and character, and not all the houses in certain streets will be demolished, it is going to look very odd, new houses on one side of the road and the old houses on the other.
The whole project is a 15 year phase, which is way behind already.
Residents got the letters from the council in March 2003 informing us of the plans and some of the houses should have been ready to move into by March 2005, but that wasn't to be, they didn't start moving into new homes until mid 2006. I still have that letter, and that's when I started looking into the history of the houses in my area. I found that the streets named after colleges were built between 1882 onwards, I went to Liverpool records office and looked at old directories (like the ones I use in my family history research) and found my street and others in the area listed in the directories from 1884 onwards, and they are listed in the 1891 census and not on the 1881.
I think our "Welsh Builders" knew what they were doing.

Doesn't she look like the Plumber that lived at 62 Queens Road? Is that his daughter?
Have a look at this, scroll down a bit.

The houses are almost finished, I will get some more photo's when I can.
I had a sneaky look inside the one I will be moving into, I was very impressed!!, the builders let me go and have a look around, it was nice and warm in there, ( a big difference to this house I am in now, bloomin freezin) I can't wait to move now. I expect it won't be until mid January or early Feb 2009.

Just waiting for my letter to confirm the move, it will be on 29th january.
I have to choose my carpets and blinds for the new place yet.
I have done a bit of packing, but I will have to get busy now over the next couple of weeks.
Anyone got any boxes? I have got loads already, but will need more.
Once I am settled in I will let you know about a house warming hehehe.
Here is a sneaky look at the garden, it will be a lot different once I get to work on it.

Hello Jan
They are a brilliant set of photos, I wish I would have thought of that a few years ago. We were bombed out of Bootle and then lived in Shepton Rd Huyton until I was about 10. We then moved back to Bootle. Last year I went back to Huyton to get some photos, all that was there was the road name not one house standing in Shepton I was so dissapointed. This shows just how important your photos are. I have taken photos of our house in Chaucer street, Southy st and 546 Southport rd that is where I was born. I have also taken photos of Almond ave and Simons croft Ford that's where we moved back to from Huyton.
Keep clicking Jan.
You and Phil take care.
Tucker.
