Is that the corner of Linacre Lane and Hawthorne Road Bob? I remember the chippie there and the newsagents next to it, plus the gents, but I don't recall that signage. The sign advertising Viking confectionery made me smile; I was brought up to believe that "She" referred to the cat's mother.

Thanks Bob; I've got a lasting memory of that chippie. I went there one day in 1971 and bought a Holland's steak pudding, chips, peas and gravy for the princely sum of twelve and a half pence. I also remember the Beechnut chewing gum machine, where you could buy six pieces for three old pence on the wall outside the newsagents. Strange the things you remember.
