Phil, they used cure lambs pigs and ox tongues in brine for about two weeks then they would cook them and can them.
They also did stewing beef meat paste and baked beans in tomato sauce. :wink:
We never went hungry working there. :)



This is an Ox Tongue try putting that back into your mouth. :lol: :lol:

Hi Joe my mother worked at Nixons - Bridie? We used to love the tongue she brought home!

Thinking about it; I remember you used to get tongue in a can when you got a hamper at Xmas. Along with dates and other crap I would never eat :D

Thanks for your reply Jean, I remember on a Friday afternoons all the ladies brought sweets in and shared them with all the lads, i was told that it started just after the war. :?: :D :D :D

The Rustic Gardens at the back of the Blue Anchor. The Old Roan tram was used as a tea room where bowlers in the grounds could relax between ends. Legh Richman proprietor Blue Anchor Blue Anchor gardens. :wink: :D

I worked there about 1968/1970.
I was in the Finishing dept driving a Stenter machine, 3 shifts.
I also played football for them , the manager was a Jimmy Rook. Ken

I worked there about 1968/69 in the Drawtwist department, I remember, Jimmy Reid (Shop Steward} Ronnie Niblock, Peter Hunt, Jimmy Gerrard (Steve Gerrards cousin ?},the Bailey bothers {Mick and ?} Mick Spear and Gorden Lunt, I also played for the football team

Thanks Joe. My Dad's friend "Uncle" Noel worked at Corlaulds or Enka when Nylon was developed. Many years ago.

I think it became Courtaulds in the mid 1960's . It was very successful for a few years and had a great staff shop where you could buy lots of products made from Nylon. K

From what I remember , I was told they used to stand on a hill ? to watch the national. It was definitely before 1960 and after as well. He was there a long time. They were at Liverpool Uni together in the 20s studying Chemistry.

British Enka before Courtaulds, Lynne. Janette's Aunt worked there for donkeys, pre war until 60's when made redundant by Courtaulds when they took over. K
