This photograph was taken outside the Litherland Hotel and it was 1940. The Chief Commandant was George Roberts and my Father in law George Simpson is back row 2nd right and 1st right is Harry Smith. I do have this photograph and a list of all the names which I will look up and post all the names.
George was a driver who remained in the service until his retirement and served at Strand Road.

Thanks joe, that was very kind of you to post that information.
I knew it to be true as I have placed flowers many times on the memorial stones at bootle cemetery.
Each time I visit my parents grave I place flowers on my unknown grandmother and aunties..
It must have been horrendous for my dad to find them as he did and then not be able to bury them,,, just does not bare thinking about!
Thank you once again, please all keep any information on the Auxillery fire service coming.

Thank you again Joe, lovely photos and a lovely memorial in rememberence
Of all those who were lost on that terrible night.
Next time I visit I will place flowers there!
The area looks lovely now, I'm pleased that no homes have been built there it just would not have been right.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Grace , bobhamo put the photographs on , thanks Bob , I have spoken to Simon Ryan from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service who informed me that sadly , no records of the Bootle AFS have survived , I think he has a very small number of photographs which I am sure he will send me , and I will of course put them on the thread .

Oh that's really nice Dorothy,, to think our name rings a bell to someone.
Our name is Shead,,, but pronounced in bootle as Shed, we were known as the sheds
My mam and dad were Grace and John, we lived in 36 Byrom st
I am the youngest of the seven children, the others are John,Philip,Mary
Betty,Beryl and Brian ( twins ) maybe you knew one of them.
I know my mam and dad were well known and had lots of friends
Dad worked at one time in the gas works and also cleaned windows on his days off.
Hope some of that jogs your memory.
Thank you for your reply
