I think when this bit of the forum was set up part of the intention was to recommend reliable tradesmen etc. In the spirit of that intention please allow me to do the opposite with this warning...
Company is called Window Warranty. They underwrite guarantees on, would you believe, windows. Those guarantees often last 10 years by which time the original supplier has ceased trading.
Fair play to them (we thought) when they arranged to visit my mother in law (a widow in her late 70s) as a follow up to an installation some years before.
The rep was a friendly woman (nice tactics ) who went round surveying all the windows in question identifying various problems such as hinges and seals that need replacing. Long story short, estimated bill over £2000. Mum in law says she want to chat to her daughters about it first so, out of the kindness of her heart rep discounts this to get the deal and price drops to £2000 on production of a cheque for £100 deposit. Have to say that it's most out of characeter for the mum in law to do something like that but we think she was taken in by the friendly female rep.
Soon as we heard about this we stopped them in their tracks and got the bank to stop the cheque (which had been banked the very same day it was given over to them). Fortunately we know a very reliable bloke who fits UPVC windows doors etc so we got him round to do the same survey (without mentioning WW's quote).
His price - £180 all in. Vast majority of work quoted for was not needed.
Thought it worth letting you know just in case anyone else gets stung. Fortunately the family rallied round and stopped this in time - others may not be so lucky. Of course, others may have used this firm and been delighted with the service they got - if so, happy days.

Thanks for posting your family's encounters - we should get several quotes, if you live alone have a friend or neighbour with you when the salesperson calls, don't make up your mind there and then, talk to your family and friends about the work needed.

Just to clarify something.
This didn't arise from a cold call at the doorstep - the MiL isn't that daft.
The rep did have an appointment. Our annoyance was with the hardline, 'sign up now' approach she used.
