Can anyone help me please. Am looking for any info at all on the Parrett family ...Joseph Richard, hairdresser and head of household. 43 Rawson Road, Seaforth. I know they lived there in !906, but don't know names of wife, or children, one of whom was the mother of my mother, born in 1919....Julia Kneale. Anything at all would be much appreciated..thank you

Hi Shirley welcome to the site,
There is a member on here by the name of Parrett, he has asked a great deal for help with his family tree, he has had a lot of help on here, perhaps you could contact him (Andrew Parrett).
Have a look at this thread, 43 Rawson Road is mentioned etc.http://www.bootlehistory.co.uk/forum/se ... mit=Search

Hi Shirley,
Can you give us more info on your mother's date of birth and what was her maiden name?
I could try and find her birth registration and you could order a copy of her birth cert.

Thank you so much Jan...Will have to study the comments properly. but definitely the same family. To give me a real start, I know that my mothers grandfather was Joseph Parrett, the hairdresser at 43 Rawson Road, but one of his daughter's was my grandmother and I have no idea of her or her husband's name, although I do know my mother's maiden name was Kneale and born approx 1919 in July...If anyone has access to birth records, I would be so grateful to find that information...thank you again.....Sorry, date of birth, almost sure was July 5th 1919 and as I said her maiden name was Kneale Thankyou

Shirley,
Where was your mother born?
The only Julia L Kneale birth registration I can find in July was in 1918 registered Birkenhead, but mother's maiden name Thompson.
I have researched the Parrett family, there was another daughter Ethel, but she married surname Lea in 1927.

Yes, some mysteries ...I do know my mums middle name was Lily...Julia L....? Seen her death cert and she died Oct 26th 1962 in walton hospital. There are no relatives I am aware of, who are still living, from my mums side to ask questions of. I think Ethel was probably her mother, but don't know where Kneale came from. My mum had 2 older sisters Leila, and Edna ,and a younger sister Sadie. Also a brother John, but no idea of dates and places of birth. Her brother John, I remember , was married to Irene, and they had 1 daughter Wendy, born about 1949, and they lived in Ellesmere Port. Their surname was also Kneale, I've just remembered xx

You people are so kind and helpful....I wish I'd done this long ago. Thank you so much for all your help. My mother always spoke about Grandad Parrett, but never thought of asking how to spell it. I was only 14 when she died,so never really had the chance to ask questions. Joseph was obviously who she was talking about, but being a bit hopeless about this kind of thing, i could never make sense of this kind of research. Always knew he was a hairdresser and based in Rawson Road. Never had much of a relationship with my maternal grandmother, supposedly the daughter of Joseph. Am hoping to get enough info to create my family tree for my children and grandchildren. Again, thank you so much x

Thank you so much for posting this pic. I have to say, I have seen it before, in fact, just earlier this year. And on seeing it, I realised why I could find no info on the Parrett family. I never dreamed that the surname would be spelled that way. My mum always spoke about Granddad parrett, but being so young when she died, I never did ask for the spelling....The girl to the right front of the pic looks so like my mum, that I really do think she was my grandma..... Thank you once again x

Wow! this is so exciting and just around the corner from where I live! Does anyone know what happened to the original hairdresser's building? There are lots of houses round here with the same square detail in the brick work and a balcony below the upper bay but 43 rawson seems to be a much newer house these days. I've looked at bomb damage site, not sure if that end of rawson was damaged but the other end was. Anyway, all very very fascinating!

Bob!
thanks so much! That's amazing! Would you mind if I print and use the original photo to go down and do one of those before and after photos? (like the one attached)
I didn't realise that house numbers changed! That's really interesting,
Honestly, I have learnt more from this website than I think throughout the whole of my A Level history years!!!!
I think I spent most of yesterday just scrolling through a ton of fascinating stuff on here!!!
Thanks again for all your help,
Dot x

I feel like I should give something back and now I think of it I have a set of negatives that I scanned in (I found them in a dusty box in a local charity shop) no reference of name or where they are from. They may be nothing to do with the local area, but if you would like me to post them on here then I am more than happy to do so for people to use.
I scanned them and then didn't know what to do with them! Just didn't want them to go to waste and end their days in a bin somewhere!!!
I think they are 2nd world war based, there seems to be a few kilts on them and one is of a marathon in germany I think! Anyway, let me know if you are interested and I'll do a post with them on.
Least I can do after all you have already helped me with!
