Hi Annie,
Where had your great grandfather lived at the time of his death? Do you have a copy of his death cert?
If you think your g grandad could be buried in Bootle Cem you would have to contact Thornton Garden of rest and ask them if they would do a look-up for you, they have the Bootle cem registers there.
Thornton Garden of Rest
Lydiate Lane

Otherwise it would be a matter of a trip to Liverpool RO to trawl through the burial registers for each cem in Liverpool. I would also suggest contacting Allerton cemetery, who have all the Liverpool (but not Bootle) burial registers, but they will charge you about £11.00 for a look-up.
Address: 192 Woolton Rd, Allerton L19 5NF
Phone:0151 233 3004
Hope that helps a bit.

Any idea of his Religion ?
Death Notices in Liverpool Echo a few days after Death often give Funeral arrangements and Burial details, I found these notices more common post war.
Hope to be back in Liverpool in the Archive dept researching next weekend. Will browse for you, if nothing found before then.

Here in Liverpool Library Archive a week later than planned. Just Checked Ford Cemetery Microfiche only Thomas Halsall was buried 1860
Checked Death Notices for Dec 1947 in Liverpool Daily Post no entries for a Halsall. The Microfilm Reel 262 for Dec 1947 for Liverpool Echo wouldn't you know it, has been lost.
Gores Street Directory for 1947 does not exist but 1946 shows Thomas Halsall a clerk at 7 Houlton St Liverpool 7
