Hi All,
A while since I have been here.

I have today found some information that "may" be a family member.
Attaching an image of a WW1 medal card for 1914-1925 from FMP.
There is a street name on there that I cannot read, but maybe someone may recognise it? Looks like Canning Place??
The medal it appears was also sent to the Bootle Fire Brigade Strand Road, Bootle.
Thomas Edward Evans b 22 July 1891 Bootle. was a fireman in the Merchant Navy.

Is there anywhere I might be able to look up members of the Bootle Fire Brigade?
Thomas is being a little elusive, so this is just another avenue to look at.

Woops, doesn't seem I can add an image. Anyone tell me how?

Any help would be most greatful.
Thank you.

Hi Barby hope you are well?, Canning place was the site of the Seamens(Merchant Marine) home in Liverpool, I will have a look around and see if I can find any MM records for him.

Later it looks like I may have copied this previously for someone??

Hi Lily
All well here thank you as I hope it is with you.

Thank you for the information. Soundx promising. He did stay with his mother at one stage at the end of the war, as found him on electoral rolls while Iwas at Crosby library acouple years ago.
I do have his merchant navy record from FMP but trying to find more info on him. Bit elusive. The medal record is under Thomas Evans 1891. If I could find out how to attach the record will send what I have.
Thomass naval record is very limited with only one ship entry on it. I understand that it was a banana boat he was on at the time. Pacuare.

Have a great day and thank you once again.

Hi Lily,

Thank you so much for the time you have spent looking this up.
I struggle with the 1939 records!!
Will look further there for a marriage, would be nice if there is a record on line to prove if this could be a family member.

The information on Thomas Evans on FMP Medal Card 1914-1925 is as below.

First name(s) Thomas
Last name Evans
Birth year 1891
Birth place as transcribed Liverpool
Birth place Liverpool
Birth county Lancashire
Birth country England

Record set British Merchant Navy, First World War Medal Cards 1914-1925

Collections from United Kingdom

I actually did purchase the record from National Archives but not able to post the photo here. If you would like to contact me directly maybe I could send it to you that way?
His discharge No is 976841 so different of course to his actual Record you posted.

Again,
Thank you.

Hi Lily

Duh, should have seen this. The DOB of Thomas Evans in 1939 is not that of Thomas Edward.
So I can see I can discount this now.

Thanks for your time. Need to keep searching.

Soory Barby been up in Cairns most of the day but looking at the discharge numbers between the MM record and the MIC I have doubts it is the same man as I am reasonably sure the discharge number remained the same. It may be the his MM records are still available from 1921 to view at Southampton. Now I know that's a long way to go but some kind hearted genies offer to look up records under the 'Random acts of Genie Kindness' groups. I am not familiar with any in Southampton but Teens might, if she does have a contact let me know and we can point them to the right files.

Lily,

Not a problem, sounds warm. There a couple yrs ago. I wanted to sew for the day. Turned my machine on at the wall!!!!!

I have been in touch with Southampton and do have a copy of his record from National Archives UK, which is the same one that is on FMP. Only one that seems to be available. I note that the records over the period of WW1 possibly were destroyed.
I know from the electoral rolls I looked at at Crosby Library that Edward was living with his mother @ 14 Springrove in 1918,20.21. after that he does not appear on that address again. His mother lived there till she died in 1944.

Oh well have to try these things, otherwise won't get anywhere.

Again thank you for you help.
