Hi again, not a Bootle subject but wondered if you Genies could point me in the right direction.
I am trying to find a relative who was listed in the 1891 census as a lunatic, aged 45. She was listed as living with her husband and son in London. But after that she "disappears" can't find her death or her on any other census.
I am thinking she might have been put in an asylum. Is the records I could access to find out.
Thanks n advance.

Hi Lily, Thanks. Her name was Julia Anne Langton (nee Wix) born 1835 in Paddington London. Married 1865 to Samuel Langton.
I can't find them in the 1871 census but found them in the 1881 census were she is listed with her husband and son, also called Samuel 9born 1867) . She is listed as a lunatic. She had a daughter Ann Elizabeth Langton in 1868, but she is not listed in the 1881 census. Don't know if she was listed in the 1871 census or died eaelier.
In the
1891 census her husband has a new wife Caroline Freeman,(not listed as Langton so I don't know whether that means Julia dies before then or because she was "institutionalised he was free to marry.
I can't find a listing for her or her daughters death.
Any help would be appreciated. xx

Hiya Marie, good luck with your search, I`m sorry I can`t help but just felt really sad to see Julia Ann listed as a lunatic, the poor woman most likely had post natal depression or something quite curable these days.

Hi Marie could I make a couple of observations ? I don't think that Caroline Freeman was a wife to Samuel as if you look carefully at the census record she is listed as a separate entity ie Head of household #144. At this census Samuel is still listed as married and indeed in the 1901 census he is living alone still working on the railways but lists his marital status as married. I have in my mind that Julia Ann was placed in a institution but struggling to find her but will keep trying. Only death I can find that's a possible is 1906.

Hi Marie,
I think this could be the one Lily mentioned.
Name: Julia Langton
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1835
Registration Year: 1906
Registration Quarter: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at Death: 71
Registration district: Epsom
Parishes for this Registration District: View Ecclesiastical Parishes associated with this Registration District
Inferred County: Surrey
Volume: 2a

Marie,
I had a look on the 1901 census and I could only find that people in asylums were only enumerated by their initials, there is a JL in the Manor Asylum Horton, Epsom but birth place unknown and is listed as female married age 67. (pauper inmate).

Hi Marie,
I think you would have to contact them and ask if they could do hard copies for you, http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/heritage-cul ... ory-centre you will be able to e-mail them with your request, I don't know how much they would charge you, or you may have to visit to have a look at the records yourself.
