Hi All,

I am trying to track the history of George Woolley.
I know:

George was Born 29 May 1921.in Rice Lane. Walton.
His father was also named George. born approx 1895 died 1933aprox
His Mother Winifred (maiden name Reid) Born 1890s

From Rice lane they moved to Pope St Bootle
George Snr died at Pope St. 1933
Winifred !970s
There was a daughter born 1923

The name Stevens or Stevenson is linked to George woolley Jnr before Baptism

Any help with this would be much appreciated

Hi John do you have a copy of his birth certificate (George Jnr)?, I had a look at the birth registrations and came across something I have not encountered before. There is a birth registered June Qtr 1921 ref 8B D'23 (amended) and this links to the same details registered in December 1923 ref 8B 535. It could be that the 1921 birth was not registered until 1923 but it is unusual.

Here are the two registrations for 1923, it seems the daughter is probably Frances

A bit further on with this one re the Stephens connection

Wilhemina Reid married Stephens in June 1915 ref 8B 493

She later married (assumption she was widowed) to George Woolley Snr under the name Wilhemina Stephens (not unusual for the time) ref 8B 472.

So in a nutshell George Jnr's mother was Wilhemina Reid (maiden name).

I can see a death registration for Wilhelmina Woolley in 1976 but it lists a DOB of 1882??? do you have any source docs ie birth certs etc. I did find the Banns for her first marriage but no further details to establish her correct family (there are several possibles)

After some digging found her and her family in 1911ish at the address listed on her first marriage banns

The surname of these should be BERG (have been mistranscribed) Catherine 's maiden name was Reid sister to Wilhelmina.

John managed to find a marriage cert which proves the Wilhelmina line

As you can see from the marriage cert Georges father is listed as William Henry a farmer however that could be another term for an agricultural labourer, the age of George is shown as 41 (birth 1879/1880) which fits with Wilhelminas age so both a bit older. George appears to have died at the Bootle corporation hospital 5/12/1934 age stated 55 years so in line with 1879 dob. Now we have to try and narrow that down a bit.

On Wilhelminas line the Reids I have located them in earlier years however in those it states that she was born in Ireland so will try and chase that down, back later

wilhelminas parents marriage was in Weymouth Dorset (which fits with her POB) in 1877

Martin Reid to Margaret Olivia Scott, at some stage between 1877 and 1891 they had moved to Liverpool and had a substantial family. They were both born in Ireland Margaret in Cty Cavan and Martin in Dublin region so to go further back we need to try in Irish records. Martin died 9/1/1933 at Walton Hospital (residence 289 Marsh Lane) he was buried in a public grave (often the case in those depressed years) at Ford Cemetery. I will pm a you a photo that I have located of Martin.

Hi Genies I am bumping this one up as we need some help with tracing George Woolley Senior not a lot to go on but a possibility that he came from the country.
