Hello my name is Philip and I am from the Netherlands doing research about the battle of Arnhem for many years.

At the moment I am doing research about a missing/killed soldier during the battle, for this and upcoming publication, I am hoping to trace any relatives of him, who might well be able to help me out with some background information about him and maybe even a photograph, the soldier is:

I hope someone can help me out.

Thanks in advance

Philip

Hi Philip,

Welcome to the site.

I found this possible marriage on Lancashire BMD site.

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1942
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
BARNES William C SAMUEL Lily South Sefton Register Office or Registrar Attended South Sefton BR/12/132

I had a look at the birth indexes there was a son born 1945.

I found a birth reg in 1918 registered for William Barnes, but the mother's maiden name was also Barnes.

I will send you a Private Message

Look up paradata.org.uk

It is dedicated to paratroopers. Search the index for Operation Market Garden which is what the Arnhem landing was called.

It has a list of those killed/involved in it and a curator who answers emails - Wendy George is her name.

I know this because my dad was at Arnhem (he escaped) and was one of those received by George V1 afterwards at Buckingham Palace - he's amongst others photographed there.

Roberts, Allison are the Bootle names I'm interested in.

Thorp(e), Ballard, Parry, Lucas, Dodd, Jacobson, are Liverpool ancestors.
