Marriages Mar 1896 (>99%)

Hannah William W.Derby 8b 683

Swanton Mary W. Derby 8b 683
Wilter Ellen W. Derby 8b 683
Witter Ellen W. Derby 8b 683
Hi I am not sure if you want us to try and follow the families back if so a copy of the above marriage cert would be a great start as we need to definitely know if the name is Swanton or Swanson and it will give both fathers names and occupations.

Hi Ang the records such as they are, are not very detailed I have pieced together from arrival and departure records, there were at that time 2 Richard Hannahs at sea I from Manchester and the other your rellie. It would seem that he first went to sea at 15 or so sailing as an assistant steward on the Empress of Ireland and the Lake Champlain, later voyages he seemed to primarily travel to the USA as a fireman which in those days was a brutal and hard job. will see if I can find a vid to show life as a marine fireman, hope this helps will also have a look for any news reports on the lady, Cheers Lils

Later:::::: this article explains the life of a Fireman/Stoker

http://www.barrymerchantseamen.org.uk/a ... etrim.html

Further::::: I believe his first ship was the Empress of Ireland (as above) he sailed on her before her sinking with tremendous loss of life I had a rellie who lost his life on the Empress, her is a vid all parts same page.

I have Hannah in my family, Jan and others...forgive I have forgotten names, helped me find my family. My grandads sister Hannah Latham, married Bobby Hunt, then she married David Hannah (she became Hannah Hannah) They went to New York and had a daughter named Hannah! I believe the daughter must have died as I remember my mum Rachel Latham-Graham telling me that her Auntie had paid a visit from America and wanted to take mum back with her because she didn't have any children. Of course my grandma wouldn't let her go.
Granddad John Latham, grandma Margaret Campbell from Co. Antrim. They lived in ..Canal street or Berry Street.

Hi again :D sorry I cant identify any regiment from the photo but I would think he was probably doing his national service all records from 1939 or so are held by the Ministry of defence and will not be released any time soon. Next of kin can apply for a fee for access only if the service person had died and a death cert must be provided.

Hi everyone just logged in to say
My beautiful mum JOAN MAHER, BROWN, NEE HANNAH sadly passed away on the 28th October 2020😢😢

we where lucky because we got to spend some time with her and be with her during her final hours ⌚

and I know some people didn't get to do that because of covid 19 rules and regs and that must have been so hard 😭

So I just want to say thank you to everyone for all the help I received with my family tree👨‍👩‍👦 getting information and photos was tremendous🙏 thanks

I've posted a photo this was taken in the Beaconsfield club at the are you from bootle reunion we attended in March this year she had a brilliant night.

Time to put the ghosts to rest now mums

If anyone has any information about how I get ashes of an ex merchant navy man. out to sea would be good he spent his life at sea 🌊 or anyone with a boat 🛥️
so would be nice to do something like that

I hope I do get to write mums book fingers crossed thanks joans girl xx

Thank you
