Hooten place was made up of houses down the left hand side moving up to a dead end which was a wall that separated St James school yard from the street on the right and side was St James Hall and a small wood yard which ws behind the main shops Nellie dunns etc.

When I was at St James in the late Thirties we were forbidden by the
school to use the back entry between Chestnut Grove and Hooton Place.
Only one lad had permission because he lived over Costigans on Marsh
Lane. We were never told the reason for the rule. Does anybody know
of any history cennected to the entry ?
