Rail fare increase

Postby Invicta » Thu Dec 07, 2017 9:28 am

Rail fares will increase by 3.4% next year.
My young neighbour will pay £6900 from West Kent to London Terminals.
This is a standard but flexible ticket. He travels early and works late so needs the flexibility.
He has a good job in Ship Brokering and I presume is well paid but £6900 is a huge sum to fork out. Ken

Just got a price for a comparable journey here, Ken. I got the mileage from sevenoaks in Kent to Euston station, it said 30 miles. Comparable journey here is Liverpool to Preston, well it's actually 32 miles, guess how much a season ticket is with Southwest Railways the provider?
£2788! Talk about a north/south divide.

A similar Trio ticket for Mersey Travel which includes bus, rail and ferry covering an area from Southport to Speke costs about £1600 per annum.

Two stops further on Phil, TONBRIDGE, about 12 miles further down. The track splits there, one line to East (Dover etc ) the other South to Hastings/Eastbourne.
We can't use bus passes for trains Keith and our nearest ferry is Dover
The odd occasion I go to town now, the service is good but my day return with Tube costs £21 off peak.
Cheers Ken

Yes, overnight they say Dorothy. The Kent Weald here is quite high so we get it from the North East direction.
We live at the bottom of a valley and have been “ marooned” here by snow on about 5 occasions. Three years ago I bought an AWD car just in case and haven’t seen a snowflake since  Ken

Ken, it's strange how fares differ. Last week in London a day pass for the train and bus from Marlow to London Marylebone was £10 pp, think that was with Chiltern Rail.

It’s not just the rail increase, it’s almost everything that you buy, council tax, water charges, gas, leccy, and food prices all go up each year this is rip off Britain. :x
Cheers Joe.
