At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them
All gave some
Some gave all

Its the 10th November, the old soldier sleeps in his bed
On the table beside him, a small splash of red
To a Civvie its a symbol of lives that were lost
To ex Forces its Remembrance, whatever the cost

A civvie cannot understand the bond we all share
How can they know, they were not there
Yes they have mates, and they laugh and they drink
But are they so close that they know how you think

They meet after work and go home at 11
But soldiers are together 24/7
Yes we stand together during the bad and the good
In the snow and the rain, in a North German wood

When you come off stag, and you're soaked to the skin
We'll make you a brew and welcome you in
And when things are hard and your going off track
We'll tease and insult you, but we'll bring you back

And so the soldier awakes and gets dressed up all fine
His suit neatly pressed on his shoes a deep shine
His Regimental badges he shows off with pride
Although only his comrades can see the hurt inside

On parade he marches, his medals are gleaming
And if you look closely, you'll see his eyes streaming
And as he marches forwards, and lays down his wreath
His Comrades beside him can all feel his grief

And as he salutes and looks up to the skies
A look full of pride seems to shine from his eyes
And as the civvies look on completely unaware
The ghosts of his comrades are all standing there

They salute, about turn and march silently away
But he knows he'll march with them on another day
For once your a soldier, forever you'll be
A soldier, and you'll be in fine company

For when a soldier dies and reaches Heavens Gate
No matter how long, his comrades will wait
And they'll welcome him in, with banter and beer
And the sign on the Gate says "Forces welcome here"

So when we wear a poppy although its unspoken
We all share a bond that can never be broken
So if you died on the Somme, Afghanistan or elsewhere
They'll welcome you in because you belong there
This poem is dedicated to all forces personnel who have lost their lives for whatever reason. Quis Separabit: ABSENT FRIENDS ..... WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

We will be at our cenotaph in about 90 minutes .
Scotty you would be proud of the people from Ontario especially Toronto.Remember you and I talking about
the 401 known as The Highway of Heroes well school kids and adults no matter what religion or race
are planting 2 million trees all the way along it to remember the 2 million Canadians
that fought in the many wars since WW1 and the TV interviewed many of the little ones
and their answers to why they were planting the trees would have bought tears to your eyes.
G- d Bless our armed forces and all those who served and those that waited for them to return.

Hi Matt,I remember our conversations well. The Canadians certainly do their fallen heroes proud.Whenever there was a repatriation, it would be well announced, so that there were thousands of people lining the route of the fallen, myself included. It made me so proud of those young men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This poem was written by a young lad who knew he wasn't going home from the hospital.Try and read it without wiping away a tear.

Mother can you hear me
I'm lying here all alone
In this foreign country
So many miles from home

I can see your gentle face
Tears shining in your eyes
When you left me at the station
And we said our last goodbyes

My life is flashing here before me
I know my end is near
And running down my cheek
I can taste a salty tear

I can see our little house
On our little road
And all my friends I played with
Unlike them, I won't grow old

I can see all of our neighbours
Standing with their cups of tea
I looked out for those neighbours
And they looked out for me

And I can see sweet Maggie
She lives two doors away
My dream it was to fall in love
And marry her some day

And I can see my Father
A gentle man was he
When he came home from the docks
He would rock me on his knee

Forgive me mum for leaving you
I know I've broke your heart
But I'm fighting for my country
I had to do my part

Just remember Mother
What you taught me way back then
When our time on earth is over
We shall meet up once again

So Mother I'll be waiting
At Heaven's open door
And when the good Lord calls you
We shall never part no more

Mum I have to go now
I'm in a lot of pain
I'm waiting on my Saviour
Calling out my name

I hope they take my body home
To that grand place of my Birth
Then I can rest forever
In my good old Liverpool Earth
