MY BRIG A DOON. BABS SMITH RIP.

Postby Ernie Jackson. (Bunty) » Wed Jun 14, 2017 8:38 pm

My dear sister Babs passed away on 28th June, 2016, almost a full year ago. She will be happily remembered by many in Bootle, and most on this site, as a truly wonderful, popular and and most generous lady.

Last Sunday I fulfilled the promise I made to her in her final days by driving to Scotland with my family and scattering the ashes of her, her loving husband and their faithful dog in the fast flowing river running through her most favourite place on earth, Brig a Doon. A place I had mistakenly thought as mythical.

She now has her wish of being with those she loved and travelling the World together.

We shed a tear during that sad few minutes. Eerily, but most fittingly, a nearby piper, completely unarranged, struck up a wonderful tune.

We love you Babs and you are badly missed.

My thoughts are with you at this sad time, Ernie. I'm sure your many memories of Bab's, have kept you strong and helped you get through a very difficult year. RIP Babs.

Incidentally; I thought Brig a doon was fictitious also, whereabouts is it?

Thanks Ken.

The above address shows some nice photos and describes the area far better than I can. It really is a very beautiful part of Scotland.

You will see it is famous as the birthplace of Robbie Burns and we visited the museum and other very interesting tourist spots.

Ernie, I'm sure you will now feel a sense of fulfilment, you took the trouble to honour the final wishes of your dear sister, and I think Bab's would be very proud of her brother :)

Thanks for the link, Ernie. So, it's really a bridge over the River Doon, it's very picturesque. I loved the summer and winter pictures taken from the same viewpoint.

Ernie - It was very satisfying to read that you carried out your dear sister, Barbara's wishes.

Barbara was one of the most generous and thoughtful people I have
met on the Forum. I was really taken aback when I planned a visit
across the pond that she immediately took it upon herself to organise
a "Get together!" for me. It was lovely to actually meet a few of the
members face to face and I will never forget her thoughtfulness in
arranging that! R.I.P. Barbara, gone but never forgotten.

Ernie, what a very sad, but fulfilling journey to Scotland. Your lovely sister is still missed sorely on this Forum. Her wit and generosity will be forever remembered.
