Not to mention those who have contacted me privately asking about cruises, I can think of four BBs who might be tempted in the not so distant.
Next March we will travel with two couples new to cruising, one celebrating 40 years marriage and my friend celebrating his 70th Birthday. No better way to mark a major celebration. :D

Great story Bill.
We berthed next to The World in Napier NZ. That ship is for living on permanently and we chatted to a few folks on the quayside, all of them Americans and mostly over 80's. None of them knew where they were and weren't doing anything other than stretching their legs ( the same day we visited 5 vineyards). The ship was very small compared to the other cruise ships around. Not for me though. See below. K

Yes Bill. But the clip must be a few years old now.

Most cruisers on Crystal know each other.

But she isn't the only resident. There are a few other ladies on full time and one has over 400 cruises under her belt Seems others didn't want the publicity. Can't say I have seen Mamma Lee on the dance floor before.

Ken. The World actually sells the cabins, like selling a house, and I believe it is seldom up to capacity. Way out of the league pricewise of most people in the real world. Averages about 2 million dollars a time I believe.

I don't fancy it either, even if I could ever dream of affording it.

Mamma Lee is a very wealthy lady but wouldn't we all be well off if we sold everything we had, received a big insurance pay out on a departed partner?

The amounts of money spent were greatly exaggerated too. $175000 for a year in reality would be about £90000 which is still appears way out of reach of an average persons income.

They quoted full brochure prices and nobody with any financial acumen ever, ever pays brochure price.

Her total annual expense of around $90k, all found, no bills of any sort, no car, no fuel bills, no tax, doctor and medical facilities just minutes away 24/7 and absolutely nothing else to spend to provide a life of absolute luxury. Not bad for a lady who must now be into her 90's.

Normal Nursing Home charges are way above that in America so there is no contest.

Crystal is amongst the most expensive lines at sea so anyone with lesser means that did this on other lines could almost certainly afford it.

Crystal is not a vacation, it is a life, and although you may think it expensive when you board you always remember how cheap it was when you disembark, especially with zero showing on your credit card.

Just add up everything you have, and need, to live ashore together with your assets. You will be surprised.

Ken. Is this a guest day out or the start of yet another great cruising holiday?

Whatever it is it is well earned by both of you and you are benefiting from what has been a long life of working and planning for happy autumn years . Good on yer.

It's pouring down and getting colder up here. Heating on and warmer clothes the order of the day.

Patricia.

What a great occasion that will be.

Definitely on our bucket list and I have ordered a brochure but seems to be booked up for 2018 already.
Maybe an idea would be to make an early booking and pay a returnable deposit ?

I will have to practice my "Old Man River".
