Oh no! Not another quiz

Postby filsgreen » Fri Feb 17, 2017 9:53 am

Morning everyone. May I start another quiz please? This time on popular music trivia. It may not be everybody's cup of tea, but it keeps the grey matter working :D

Can I start the ball rolling with this question?

The single "Jet" by Paul McCartney, is about what?

On a similar theme...

On Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" there was what has been described as "the most famous saxophone solo of all time" - who played it?

Urban myth it was Bob Holness, Bernie. It wasn't but I'll let someone else answer it.

I thought Bob Holness was (again incorrectly) credited with the sax solo in Hazel O'Connor's 'Will You?'.

Checked it out, Bernie, it was Baker Street. The myth was created by Stuart Maconi.

Just a bit of trivia re Homeward Bound.

Customers of mine John & Chris were a folk duo in the sixties, they played the same gig as Paul Simon at the Cross Keys in Liverpool.
At the end off the night with Paul having nowhere to stay John invited him to stay at their home in Maghull. Paul accepted the offer.
The following day John & Christine drove Paul Simon to Widnes station and sat with him until his train arrived, they said he did write a song while they were with him.

Thanks for that, Keith. I bet there were many people like your customers, who helped him along the way to stardom. I just hope he remembered them when he was famous.

Good story mate - I must regale folk with that next time I'm in 'The Keys'.

Anyone having a pop at our missing saxophonist?

Thanks Bern, dead easy one this.....

As you know I went to see Paul Carrack last week, he was brilliant btw its another on my list of best ever gigs I have been to.

Carrack wrote and sang `How Long` for the band Ace, but do you know the story behind the song ? It is not as it might seem.

I'm sure I heard this story a few months back on the Sounds of the Seventies show with Johnnie Walker. Was it something to do with him getting ripped of by his band or something like that?

Phil I will give you that one my mate as its as near as :D

Although widely interpreted as being about adultery, the song was in fact composed by lead singer Paul Carrack upon discovering that bassist Terry Comer had been secretly working with the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver. Comer returned to Ace in time to play on the song.

So its over to you Phil
