Fats was an inspiration to a young Earnest Evans later to become Chubby Checker.

After school Evans would entertain customers at his various jobs, including Fresh Farm Poultry in the Italian Market on Ninth Street and at the Produce Market, with songs and jokes. It was his boss at the Produce Market, Tony A., who gave Evans the nickname "Chubby". The store owner of Fresh Farm Poultry, Henry Colt, was so impressed by Ernest's performances for the customers that he, along with his colleague and friend Kal Mann, who worked as a songwriter for Cameo-Parkway Records, arranged for young Chubby to do a private recording for American Bandstand host Dick Clark. It was at this recording session that Evans got his stage name from Clark's wife, who asked Evans what his name was. "Well", he replied, "my friends call me 'Chubby'". As he had just completed a Fats Domino impression, she smiled and said, "As in Checker?" That little play on words ('chubby' meaning 'fat', and 'checkers', like 'dominoes', being a game) got an instant laugh and stuck, and from then on, Evans would use the name Chubby Checker.

You can set the next one Phil :D

Not too sure of a story (so to speak) but believe it's more to do with the sexual position rather than a long hot summer 48 years ago?

In which city did the Beatles play their last scheduled UK tour concert - ignore the rooftop show and I'm discounting the NME Poll Winners event. Thinking purely of the Beatles' tour shows.

Usual rules - no Googling

It's a city - so suggestions so far all incorrect.

OK I'll go with the obvious, it can't be Liverpool as they probably opened the tour there, so I'll go for London.

Did a little bit of digging on this. Hammond senior was a firefighter although Mr. Marley was a bit of a rum character with something of a checkered reputation. Other than that I'm clueless. :?

Spot on bernie.the lead singer rudy lewis died the day it was due to be recorded.20th may 1964.because the studio time had been booked they had to perform.they recruited johnny moore back into the group at the last minute.johnny stayed lead singer for a few years and was lead singer for most of their top 40 hits both here and in the states.he died in 1998.
