Film quotes

Postby filsgreen » Thu Jan 05, 2017 12:58 am

Evening all. I've just thought of a new quiz to keep the grey matter going. I'm watching a great film at the moment and the idea of asking what film the quote is from came to me. Just remember though, we're not all Barry Norman's, so don't make it too hard. :D

I'll start it by asking you what film is this quote from?

"Goddam right! They send you here for life, that's exactly what they take, the part that counts anyway."

Don't recognise the line but, as it's on telly just now, I'll go for...

Cheers Phil.

Don't think this one is too obscure...

Thanks for posing a question, Alamo. However, its normally the person who correctly answers the previous question, that sets the following one.

Having said that; I haven't got a clue with Bernie's, but I'll hazard a guess at Taken with Liam Neeson?

I'd also say Taken is right for Alamo's one but mine still stands.

It's a classic British crime film that suffered (and i do mean suffered!) a Hollywood remake years later.

I don't know it, Keith; I bumped it because it was the bottom of the page. Is it a war film? I don't think it's Henry V

I've got it with your clue Keith. That good old, British, stiff upper lip film in the mound of This happy Breed, Mrs Miniver. It should have been Celia Johnson, who played the female part. I've got a picture in my mind of her on. Waterloo Bridge, or some bridge where she has been told bad news. Can't remember that speech though.

Is right Phil Mrs Miniver it is.

Phil it is when the vicar is giving his sermon in the bombed out church, gives me goose bumps every time, and here it is.

The only one I can think of is Casablanca, Bee, but I thought Rick says "play it again, Sam"?

D'oh; I'm such an idiot, it was a play on words.

Casablanca it is Phil. I may be wrong but I don't think the line "play it again Sam" was actually said in the movie. Think it's one of those famous misquotes... but then I wouldn't know as I'm probably the only person who has NEVER actually seen the whole film all the way through. I'm usually making Christmas dinner when it's on telly but always get a shout to watch this clip of the old couple practising speaking English.

Following lines are from a poem quoted in film...
You heard the story of Jesse James,
Of how he lived and died.

Of something to read,
Here's the story of - - -
