Not that one, Shelagh. I can see that musical terms aren't your forte :D Same era though.

Not really, Phil, not an accomplished musician
Used the word "theme" because it's another word for keynote, a prominent recurring melody or a group of notes in a composition

Sounds good Keith!!!

Look at your keyboard, Shelagh, you may come up with the answer if you tread softly. :D

Now I'm very confused, Phil ??
Do you mean look at keyboard clue again, or musical term for t.v. cop show again?

Only title I can see on keyboard "IM LEAVING IT UP TO YOU" - Dale and Grace  (whoever they are)
No sign of musical term for t.v. cop show :D

More clues please!!!

Ok with all this talk of keyboards and forte I'm going to suggest Softly Softly. Seem to recall a song of that name but not who sang it. . Just checked Guiness and it was the Equals

Sorry for confusing you Shelagh, all will become clear after the penny drops for Bee, who is so close :) Bee, all you have to do is look at the original clue again. :D. Shelagh, you are also missing the question mark. :D

Phil, my thinking on your clue was the musical term pianis simo (ken Dodd) but can't think of a connection with police program.

And I thought clue for cop program was TASK as in Softly Softly task force!
With pianissimo being the musical clue for softly!
Thought tread softly a dead giveaway for As I Leave You Softly, how wrong was I
Then came the keyboard clue....now a question mark/symbol..where do we go from here????

That's the one, Bee. I'll explain my logic. I mentioned forte as you can have pianoforte, which means the opposite of pianissimo. Pianissimo is a musical term for softly or softly softly. Softly softly Task force was a cop show in the sixties. Tread softly is a clue to that, plus, you can tread softly on the soft pedal on the piano. I hoped the keyboard clue would confuse, obviously i meant a piano keyboard and not the computer. Your go, Bee :)

Phil, I "got" all of your clues including the "bit of a task" one to Bernie, I just didn't know that the prog was called Softly, Softly Task Force. I thought it was just Softly Softly :? hence my inability to match our Sir Ken's tune

Ok on to the 70s for a simple one... USED TO ELICIT INFORMATION
