this is a diving duck,THE DISAPEARING DUCK,not the prettiest duck in the world but a really clever one.it dives straight down and dissapears for up to 4 minutes, hence the name.it lives in the paddyfields of china but is near extinsion.the rice farmers put down poison to save their crops graham.

Pictures below..from an older Liverpool one!!

Often stop off at this place for a coffee and a rest in this lovely old courtyard.
The Bluecoat - lovely :D

Image

Building below is called The Athenaeum it was founded in 1797 - very opulent and grand, wouldn't think so from the outside  but interior is a work of art!
Athenaeum is a private members club, sometimes open to the public for afternoon teas and buffets, also used for wedding receptions and other special occasions!
The building has a famous library, and has been described as "One of the finest in Europe"
All this history on our own doorstep

Shelagh - Loved your photos, especially "Chavasse Park"
which I had never heard of so had to "Google" same.
Came across some interesting info that the Park was
named after Frances Chavasse,2nd Bishop of Liverpool
and his twin sons.
Bernie - Have to agree with Shelagh, that is one heck of
a gardener - lovely work.
Graham - Interesting photo of the Disappearing Duck
learning a lot from you regarding "Duck World!"

Beautiful photo of the Pier Head, Paul!

Bernie - Your photo of Shakespear's grave brought back a lot
of memories of us visiting Stratford on Avon a few years ago
when we attended the Royal Shakespeare Theatre to see
"Romeo & Juliet!" I still have the "Program!" :-)

Having some beautiful weather here in the low Eighties
and we decided to take in the "Hampton Boat Tour."
The Guide told us some interesting facts and one that
particularly stuck with me was when we approached the
" Winston S. Churchill," he said that there was always
a British Navigator on same in honor of the ship's name
and is the only U.S. Naval vessel to fly a foreign ensign;
the Royal Navy’s White Ensign is flown as well as the Stars
and Stripes.:-)

Sorry, Lew said I posted an "Aircraft Carrier" instead of a
"Destroyer" (shows how much I know about ships!
Decided to look up the "Winston S.Churchill" to
make sure I posted the "Correct" one..........
