It's the 23rd August here in Aus.

Four years since my John passed. Still miss him as much today.

It's also 29 years since Marie (otherone) lost her husband Michael.

My son is coming for a few days visit, we are having egg and bacon butties for lunch.
And a Vindaloo curry for tea, two of John's favourires.

I have been reading some of John's poems, kindly copied and put into a folder from my good friend Robyn.

Brought a few tears and also a few smiles.

Would just like to share this one with you again.

"Land of Dreams" )

Tiny little Munchkin, so innocent and petite
Drags her Grandad around the yard, on his slow old feet
" Come on Pop ?",she beckons, " please push me on the swing"
"April showers may come your way" they both begin to sing

Her energy is boundless, not a worry in the world
Like a gentle little butterfly, who`s wings have yet unfurled
She blows him a big kiss, as he watches her with pride
" I`ve brewed a `cuppa tea` Guv," ( Nanna shouts from just inside)

"I`ll be in in a minute Luv", The old Grandad call to Nan
" I`m pushin` Sammi in the swing, It`s all part of the plan"
" Lovely fresh air in her lungs, She`ll be snoozin` very soon"
" The Derby game is on T.V., an` it`s on this afternoon"

She looks into his Irish eyes, and spots her own reflection
" Look, I can see my picture Pop", ( He smiles at her detection )
" See my eyes are blue, like yours ?", ( but maybe not so sad )
He recalls those very words, he once said to `his` Grandad

Asking a `million questions`not a one he takes to task
" Why do your big eyes water Pop?" the little girl does ask
" There`s somethin` in me eye" he lies, " Nan will fix it in a `Mo`
" Some `Goodies` in her cupboard, That`ll put it right, Y` know?"

The Nanna`s Chocolate Mudcake, is sliced inside a minute
He brings a chunk for Sammi`s eye, ( In case there`s somethin` in it )
Plus a few more bits of `Medicine` ( in case of complications )
Coloured Paints, all mask her face, Pops` little `League of Nations`

Slowly swingin` `To and Fro`now in the "Land of Dreams"
Chocolate Cake adorns her head, with bits of Custard Cremes
"Too big a day" for a little girl, with jam tarts down her socks
It`s a big day for her Nan, and Pop, The games` now on the `Box`

Thank You Kathy, what a day to share .

That was a lovely poem, no wonder you shed a tear.

We were very lucky.

Mike had no special talents to talk about but every day,

he would look in the mirror and sing this. (to the four kids)

Kathy and Marie "Theotherone" it must be so hard at times like this you both had wonderful marriages and with your John and Mike shared a great but sometimes short life together. You have raised your children and they are a credit to you and the lads and after all that's the legacy of love. Thinking of you both today and have got the baileys in to raise a glass 'To Mike and John and their lovely ladies Kathy and Marie'.

Kathy & Marie - My admiration for you both is endless - I can only imagine the heartache you have both endured losing your soulmates and yet you have found the courage to carry on with your lives. I also include Jean, as she too, has had more than her share of sadness to bear. My heart goes out to you all............Patricia.

Hey Billy, you are a lovely man, thanks for kind words.
One day I will be over to see you and Chrissie and Ray and Mon.

Patricia nice message, I am sure Marie feels the same.

When you have shared the love and ups and downs with your soul mate, it is hard when you loose them.
But with the support from good family and friends you fight on.
The forum was my crutch for a long time, still is sometimes.

To all nice words and thoughts had a nice few days with my son and we raised a glass, or should I say three for a toast. Hic.

Marie (Otherone), loved the song Mike used to sing, sounds like he had a good sense of humour

Love you all.

Kathy.

P S Matt the bacon butties were lovely.

Ditto to that Kathy.

This forum has been like going home for me.

It's easy to remember Mike he was a hero nobody could forget.

I remember sitting next to an old aunt many years ago,

I looked at her and she was crying,

it was fifty years since the sinking of the

Lusitania, I said "Aunty you're not still crying over losing

your husband are you, it's fifty years ago" She looked at me

and as the tears rolled down her face she said,

"Fifty years to you, fifty minutes to me"

I now know exactly what she meant.

Thank You Love You Guys and Gals.

Marie

Marie, your aunty was so right. It will be 20 years since my husband passed. I still miss him. I feel so sad that he never got to enjoy his grand children.
Still I am lucky to have my son and his family only 2 miles from me and the Bootle forum has given me so many new friends to talk to. Life goes on and we have to do our very best to live it with love and hope for the future.

I am honored to be part of this forum.

After all the donations and fund raising we are now within touching distance of having one of the benches ( see my latest update) sited at Christ Church in honour of these wonderful people.

It was so pleasing to see that the tribute envisaged and driven on by Keith (Bonesy) with much support from Eddy Lloyd now approaches the final phase following the installation of the Tribute Benches with the help of Danny Lewis this weekend.

All the lads have done a great job Bill.

Makes you proud to be a member of the Bootle Forum,
with guys like these.

When I was home I went to St Nick's Church,
to see the memorial I had out into the rememberance book.

Not the best of pics, I tried with the flash on and off.

Thanks Lily, it is a lovely Church and so fitting it being a Seamans Church.

Thanks Bernie, I did have the pics you took but not sure if it was on old computer.
I did loose a lot of pics, and I couldn't find the ones you took for.

So we finally achieved this weekend what we set out to do back in May of this year.

The benches are a fine and lasting memorial to Ron, John, Annie, Marielou & Peter.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed either with financial support, moral support or giving there valuable time, it all counted towards what we have achieved.

Tracy

There are 2 benches - both of which were dedicated last weekend.

One is in the garden round the back of All Saints Church (better known as St. James's), Chestnut Grove off Marsh Lane.

The other is at Christ Church and has pride of place overlooking the roundabout at the top of Merton Road.
