His spit has muscles!
Are you talkin' to me or chewing a brick!
When she sucks a lemon the lemon pulls a face!

I still have a copy of 'Lern yerself scouse' by Linacre Lane.
Don't find too much use for it over here in Maryland.
By the way there is no such thing as 'Maryland Cookies'

Took me back years remembering many of these sayings. In addition:

When asked what's for tea, Mum would reply "Duck and Grab" What's that? - Duck under the table and grab what you can!

When I stood open mouthed listening to my mother and grandmother's conversation, my grandmother would turn to me and say "Make yourself scarce" (and I did!)

Thinks he's sharp just cos his heads pointed

Wanna wake up with a crowd round you? (from Tom O'Connor)

I used to keep fit on Mondays taking my Mum's 'good' shoes to Addicott's Pawn Shop at the top of Marsh Lane to get four shillings for our dinner - then pick them up on Tuesdays (family allowance day!) for four shillings and threepence! I used to stay outside first - making sure nobody we knew saw me visiting the pawn shop - Mum's instructions!!

Hi

My mate's dad stopped me in my tracks and took me down a peg or two, when he saw my new car for the first time, he said "It's shiny, just like snot up a jigger!"

My favourite put down line from a girl at the ODVA. My mate said to her, "I could live in your eyes" and she replied " Well, you'd be at home, there's a sty in one of them!"

had a friend called Joan Plank, who hated the "thick as 2 short planks" saying.
The stairs were called the dancers, because a dance called the Lancers had a lot of steps in it. I do hope that is correct. :?

That too Elaine, there must be variations of most sayings ? Corrupted over the years.
The old area designated as Cockney would have a definite Asian language slant on it these days  Ken

One my dad used about anyone who was potty was "His bars are down." No idea where it came from.
And one from my partner who was a townie was that if she asked her mother for money the reply would be "Do you think I'm Ann Lyden ?" again no idea where it came from.

Some sayings I grew up with:

1. "Money doesn't grow on trees you know!

2. "Close the door! - anyone would think you were raised in a barn?"

3. Because I said so!!

4. "Stop crying before I give you something to cry about!!

5. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

6. Your face is going to freeze that way.

7. Make sure you do the corners, the middle will take care of itself!!

8. If a jobs worth doing, it's worth doing properly!! (fav of my Mum's)

9. You're not made of sugar, you won't melt.

10. Hold your Horses!

When anyone had very sparse thinning hair, my sister would describe the hair as "two strands and a nit"!
My pal used to describe any man with a "comb over" as looking like a "walnut whip"!

:) :)

Someone who was sulking, He/she's got lips like rolls of lino.

Are you reading that Echo yer sittin on?

Some years ago I was on holiday in Turkey and I spotted two local women , they were wearing the most hideous looking trousers, I commented to my partner (who's not from Liverpool) "The kip of the kecks on them two", He looked at me and said "What are you talking about I don't know what you mean" hahaha.

Only last week he and my friend were having a friendly banter, and he said he would tell me what she said, my friend called him a clat tail, he had no idea what she meant haha, I had a laugh explaining.
