Presume that's the chap that Poulsom Drive in Ford is named after ? Ken

Yes the Drive is named after him. He and his wife did much for Bootle.

Thanks filsgreen and Bob.

Bob any idea where number 15 was please and did he die in Bootle/buried in Bootle ?

The Mayor of Sefton has retrieved a portrait of him from storage in the Atkinson. He has had it returned to Bootle and it's now in the Mayoresses Parlour.

I've had a look on Street View. Number 13 is still there. Then all the ones after have been demolished. I've seen pictures of 15 from a distance but only the side of the house and it looks much grander than the earlier numbers.

I understand they later lived at 8 Pembroke Road, a new house which they named Atworth after his place of birth. I'd love to find a photo of the house, or even the road as it looked like before the blitz, but haven't found anything so far. No 8 is, as far as I can see, a flattened plot now, but no 6 still survives.

The Poulsom Memorial commemorates William Poulsom and his wife Mary. William became Lord Mayor of Bootle in 1880 and later a magistrate. Mary was responsible for the Penny Concerts held each Saturday evening during the winter months and for other good deeds amongst the poor of the borough. William died in 1903 and his wife soon after, the memorial was paid for by public subscription and was recently restored by specialist stonemason Nick Roberson who hand-carved four replacement figures of children in ancient classical costume working on archive photographs of the originals.
