Here is a photo of the Council Chamber of Bootle Town Hall.

I would be interested to know if the room still exists, and if so how has it changed; also what became of the portraits on the walls.

Does the building still exist and is it in use?

They are great photos. Looking that the windows, I wonder if they could be the same room, after refurbishment of the ceiling, with the pictures taken from opposite ends of the room?

Our member JoyceN would probably endorse Paul's recommendation. She stays at The Breeze Guest House when she travels to Bootle for "meet ups" etc.and I seem to recall her being very pleased with the offer.

You are so right. A great innovative building, all the local government offices in one place. There were two libraries, a large very imposing library for adults, all wooden fixtures and the Children's Library just on the right as you entered the Library/Museum entry door on Oriel Road. In addition, there was the Rates Office that had its entry door on the corner adjacent to the Police and Magistrates Court roadway entry point for vehicles. The Post Office and PO Sorting Office on the corner and Public Baths round the corner in Balliol Road was the icing on the cake and proof that those who have gone before us had logic.

Hi if you are visiting Bootle and wish to see the Council chamber etc. send me an email and I will arrange for you to have a tour, if I'm available I would be more than pleased to escort you around the Town Hall. I was Mayor of Sefton in 1999/2000 so fully acquainted with its history.

Kind regards

Cllr Bobby Brennan

Hi Bob when I was Mayor of Sefton the first thing that I did was to have all the chains of office brought back to Bootle town hall and the display cabinet with the Bootle, Crosby, Litherland and Southport chains of office, inc mayoress brooches are still in the mayoral corridor in Bootle. When they were moved it was supposedly only for the one year but they have proudly remained in Bootle. I could never understand why the local chains were in Southport, though to be fair the Southport chain should be displayed in Southport.

Regards

Cllr Bobby Brennan
