Hello, I am new here, stepping over from the Liverpool FHS Forum with a query I hope may be sorted here.

From the 1890s there was a corn mill at Carolina Street or Nevada Street, canal-side, called Alexandra Mill, operated by John Blyth & Sons who had been running a smaller operation in Wavertree.

I would like to know if anyone has any information about it, especially when it closed down, and if a photo exists. I have a rough drawing of it but no photo.

Hi Daggers with your knowledge , you will know that applebys mill is listed in the directories
carolina street was built 1888 so Blyths must have had just a short 10 years there

Thanks for that. I knew there was an Appleby mill, but not that it was the same place. That notice referred only to the retirement of John Blyth, leaving his sons in charge, and the business continued well into the 20th century.

Hi Daggers and welcome across from the LASWL Forum from which you have done some great research helping many. You likely will have this info but will post in the hope it may prompt some memories from readers. John Blyths son Alexander died 1/7/1922 at Gambier Terrace (possibly his office?) residence 43 Catherine Street Wavertree Liverpool. His will leaves his estate to Sarah Louisa his widow, William Drysdale Solicitor (likely executor) and to James Sutherland and Thomas Arthur White listed as corn millers. Maybe further research on Sutherland and White will reveal more details. Will have another look tomorrow.

Lily, thanks for the welcome and compliments.
Yes, I have that information and fairly complete records of the Blyth family. The Gambier Terrace address was a nursing home.
Any more information on the Boogtle mill would be welcome.

There were two corn mills in Carolina St.
Blyth's Mill was in Nevada St. The 1938 directory gives the address as 33 Nevada St.
The Appleby Mill is listed as Carolina St.

Hi Daggers,

Welcome to the site,

(Jan44) from the Liverpool site here.

I found this on Britain from above. The Mill on Carolina Street 1952

The Mill was demolished in 1965.

Hi folks
How amazing!
Just looked at the list of residents of Nevada St. William Cranny was my husband's ggrandfather, John Higgins was my grandmother's brother and John Curran was my grandfather. Just solved some census information.
Thanks
