Had the pleasure of cycling over the SLATEFORD AQUADUCT this week which carries the UNION CANAL over the Waters of Leith into EDINBURGH.

500 feet....cast iron.....solid & impressive....completed in 1822.

Designed by none other than ...HUGH BAIRD....(!!)

Take a bow Hugh.....(Just hope it's the same guy !!??)

Sorry wrong Hugh Baird.That Hugh was born in Scotland and was an engineer in the 1800s Ours was the Mayor of Bootle in 1959
