Could anyone please let me know how I could research an accident that happened at the Liverpool docks in 1890. My Great greatgrandfather was
killed there when a load of timber fell on him. His name was Charles Bill born 1843

Hi Nellie

My great grandfather was also killed whilst working at the docks. This was in 1937 and the inquest was reported in the Evening Express. Crosby Library helped us to find the report and made a copy for us. I'm not sure what newspapers were around at the time of your grandfathers accident as it was much earlier.

Very interesting reading: the family solicitor was not allowed inside the courtroom and the dock company basically said it was my g.grandfathers fault as the onus was on him for his own health and safety!!

Good luck

Sorry Nellie :D
Couldn't find anything in old Lpool Mercury, looked under accidents, Coroners, surname Bill (which brought up all the Bills going through Parliament  )
Lily's suggestion for LRO look up is probably the way to go.
You've a time frame too.
You could also order the death certificate?

I was once called to the jury in the inquest to a dock accident, since then I have been of the impression that I was just part of an "OFFICIAL" investigation into what happened to an un fortunate fellow who fell down the hold of a ship--THEY didd'nt seem to care -WHY-OR How!!!!!
